My goal has been to investigate the role of designers’ values in IndieWeb’s development, including how concentrations of power and influence affected individuals’ capacity to participate in decisions that include their values. I will make use of two of the entry points Mosco (2009) identifies for political economic studies of communication: Structuration, the process of creating social relations such as those related to gender, race, and class, and commodification, where use values are transformed into exchange values.
